Well, that was a miserable last few days. We had a freak windstorm come through Wednesday night with winds peaking at 80 to 97 mph (129 to 156 km/h). And the temperature ranged from 85° F (29° C) at night to 98° F (37° C) or more during the day. Trees down everywhere, and sweltering heat with no air conditioning. Apparently over 275,000 people lost their power. We did not get our power back until late Saturday night.
We wound up going to a hotel because it was too hot to stay at home without air conditioning. We tried to rough it at first, but it was just too hot. And we lost all of our refrigerated and frozen food. Now, we get to clean everything and throw out all of our food.
On the bright side, I don't have to defrost my mini-fridge anymore. All of that built up ice melted away and dripped into towels we put on the floor. And we had no damage to our house and all of our trees stayed up. Other than a couple small branches that fell, the trees are healthy.
We're seriously considering getting a whole house battery backup system, with solar, so we don't have to deal with that again. We do live 75 miles (128 km) from the Gulf of Mexico, so we do get hurricanes from time to time.
What a mess. But at least it is over and other than the food and productive time, we didn't lose anything.
